Event Details

When: June 23 and August 25, 2024 from 1-4PM
Where: 5149 Bloomington Ave. Minneapolis, MN 55417 – Parking lot next to Cake!
What: A clothing swap for sizes 2XL and UP! Our mission is to help combat clothing scarcity in harder-to-find sizes.

What to know before attending the BFFS

  • We are SO excited to see you this Sunday!
  • We know that the beginning of swaps are busy; the volunteers will monitor the number of people who have entered at the beginning to ensure clothing is accessible for everyone. Even if you arrived and waited in line early, you may have to wait a few minutes until some folks leave. Thanks for understanding and ensuring the day is accessible for everyone!
  • In case of inclement weather, swap organizers will make an announcement via social media & email on Sunday morning.
  • Masks are required.

Where to go

  • 5149 Bloomington Ave. Minneapolis, MN 55417; the parking lot next to Cake.
  • Parking: Street parking is usually plentiful. Due to the large number of folks attending, you may need to walk a block or so.
  • The parking lot where the swap is held is down a few steps. (Accessible/no-steps entrance is through the alley side of the lot. More info below.)
  • The swap is OUTSIDE; dress appropriately for the weather; there will be tents covering the clothing.
  • If standing for long stretches of time is uncomfortable for you, bring a stool or chair for waiting in line.
  • We will make it clear where the line up for check in begins. It will be on the BLOOMINGTON AVENUE side of the parking lot.

Accessibility Information

  • You can access the Swap from the alley; there are no steps there. Walk down the alley (see the map below). You will enter the alley from E 52nd Street and walking to the parking lot. The alley will also be open if you would like to be dropped off.
  • Masks are required. Cake is providing extra masks if you forget to bring your own!
  • You’ll see in the Swap Guidelines that we ask you not to pile clothes (bags are ok) and keep walk ways clear. This is so people can move freely between tables & clothing racks.
  • Volunteers will be wearing name tags. Check in with any of them if you have questions or need assistance.

BFFS Guidelines

  • Leave clothing on hangers or in your hands or bags (BYOB), NOT in piles. Please be kind and generous with your fellow swappers.
  • Take what you can carry, bags welcome.
  • No negative body talk here – all bodies are good bodies.
  • Ask if you’re looking for something specific — we’d love to help!
  • Seriously, please don’t make piles!

Get involved!

June’s swap is free for everyone! We’ve been able to keep costs very low and Cake Plus-Size Resale has helped out with purchasing some supplies. (Future swaps will likely return to a suggested donation!)

In lieu of donations this time, we’d like to suggest two ways you can pay it forward as you’re able:

Food Self Donation: Cake Kit!
Help spread some joy by donating items for Cake kits! Donate at the swap and we’ll get to a food shelf. If possible, bring a completed kit or two. Or, bring individual items. Here’s what a complete Cake kit looks like (click this link).

Cake kit items include:

  • 9×13 aluminum foil pans – ideally with a lid
  • Cake mixes of any flavor
  • Sprite or lemon lime soda
  • Cans of frosting
  • Celebration candles/ birthday candles

Community Support: Angela Callais
Swap co-founder Angela Callais has been experiencing several years of extreme medical issues and trauma including multiple cancers, multiple hip replacements, and several surgeries due to dangerous infections. We invite fat community members who have benefited from the Big Fat Super Swap (today or throughout the years) to help support Angela’s healing!

Donate to her GoFundMe or send funds via Venmo or Paypal.
